Who We Are:
Karen Owoc
Founder and Director
Karen Owoc created the Pacific Coast Classic in 2003 to draw national awareness to the need to preserve collegiate athletics. She is an exercise physiologist, TV host/executive producer, and freelance writer with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biodynamics (the physiology of human performance). Due to her involvement in the health fitness industry and having two sons in competitive sports (one a former gymnast), she sees the value and need for athletic programs, particularly gymnastics.
Karen is the co-founder of the Fairness in Sports Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to saving collegiate sports and to build a nationwide alliance of MOMSS - Moms On a Mission to Save Sports.
Karen worked previously as a Cardiac Rehabilitation Exercise Specialist and Program Director for the Pritikin Exercise, Nutrition and Stress Management Center in Southern California having held certifications from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the American Council on Exercise (ACE).
She was a competitive athlete, fitness trainer, and ski instructor and is Managing Director of USA Sports Management. Her goal is to provide competitive and scholarship opportunities for our future leaders and to encourage healthy, positive lifestyles. She is the writer behind the health and nutrition blog, The Health Reporter, currently co-anchors the KCTH Channel 27 campus news, and hosts the Alameda County Public Health Department's new TV health segment, "Karen About Your Health".
Karen is also the recipient of the College Gymnastics Association "Richard M. Aronson 2008 Special Service Award".
USA Sports Management, the host of the Pacific Coast Classic, is an event production company with the purpose of organizing promotional and competitive events to support Olympic sports and intercollegiate athletic programs.
